Poignant and lasting, “Les Misérables” is one of the greatest musicals ever written. It’s won over 100 international awards and has been watched by over 65 million people all over the world. The musical boasts some of the most memorable scores and characters in musical theatre. The story takes place in 19th century France with the main character, Jean Valjean, fresh out of unjust imprisonment. To start a new life, he breaks his parole and begins his lifelong search for redemption— all while being pursued by Inspector Javert, a man of the law who refuses to believe Valjean has changed. “Les Misérables” is best enjoyed in the theatre, so make sure to get your tickets.

One of the best-known stories of turn-of-the-century love is coming to the Gallo Center for the Arts. Presented by Modesto Performing Arts, this well-loved story is sure to delight audiences of all ages. Set in the Oklahoma Territory, just outside the town of Claremore, “Oklahoma!” tells the love story of a cowboy, Curly McLain, and a farm girl, Laurey Williams. “Oklahoma!” is a staple in musical theatre, and was the first musical written by composer Richard Rodgers and librettist Oscar Hammerstein II. The musical is based on the 1931 play by Lynn Riggs, “Green Grow the Lilacs” and has been charming audiences since its debut on Broadway in 1943. This is one love story you can’t miss.
