In the 60-plus years since Phillips Lighting & Home first opened, trends and styles have changed. But the family- owned business’s commitment to quality products and customer service has remained strong.

“We’ve become a destination for quality lighting, lamps and fans,” says Carrie Arnold, who owns the business with her parents, Chuck and Karen Arnold.

The company’s spacious showroom at 1700 McHenry Ave. Ste. 76A in Modesto has a complete selection of decorative lighting, a huge array of ceiling fans, lamps, and lampshades. Phillips is more than just lighting, offering decorative hardware like cabinet pulls, home décor accessories including clocks, mirrors, and accent furniture. The business also offers lamp and light fixture repair and restoration services.

The Arnolds travel to the international lighting market twice a year, bringing back the hottest new products and fashion forward styles. Current trends include LED fixtures, contemporary crystal fixtures, vintage style light bulbs and fixtures, and clean, linear designs – especially in the bathroom.

“When you visit the store you will see a broad range of styles and prices; we really try to hit the mid-range as well as the more high-end products,” Carrie Arnold said. “We find that our customers are looking for products a step above what they are finding in the home centers and they want to see them in person, not just online. We also align our prices with what you will find on the Internet. We want our customers to know they can support a local business and still get the best deal.”

Carrie Arnold’s grandparents, Elton and Wilma Phillips, began the business as Phillips Electric Shop in 1947. The family’s tradition of providing top products and excellent customer service continues today.

“We’re not a high pressure sales environment but our experienced and knowledgeable staff is here to help,” Carrie Arnold adds. “When customers come in they usually have an idea of what they’re looking for. We can help them pick out right size and offer options within the same look, at a budget they’re comfortable with.”
