Hidden Talents: Liz Leo

Liz-Leo-1People normally know me as…

The owner of Village Health in McHenry Village in Modesto.

But what they don’t know is that I have…

Raised Basset Hounds for show for almost 30 years.

I got started with my hidden talent when…

A good friend of mine had a basset hound and I fell in love with the breed. I went to a show and got bit by the bug. Their temperament, they’re a great family dog, good with kids, they’re like little stallions to me. They’re very regal.

Someday I hope to…

See my kids continue to raise and show Basset Hounds. They’ve already done a lot of this, it’s in our blood!

People can see me perform my work at…

Any of the dog shows in the area. We’ll be at the all breed dog show in Turlock in November as well as the show in Stockton after that.

Most people don’t know that…

It takes a lot of dedication to do well in dog shows. It’s a big commitment: financial, emotional, time, but it’s worth it!

Want to get started in dog shows? Just start by…

I strongly suggest talking to someone who has been in the show ring for a long time to get a good mentor. Also, just go to a dog show and do your research. There are so many dogs out there and quality varies so much. But there are great mentors out there and amazing breeds.
