Hidden Talents: Lauren Klein
People normally know me as… The Auditor/Controller for Stanislaus County
But what they don’t know is that I have an…Extensive professional history in the art world, including a background as a manager of a major gallery.
I got started with my hidden talent when…I went to college. The art world was always my first love, and what I had in mind when I got my undergraduate degree in fine art. After college, I started an internship at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art that turned into a 14-year job.
And someday I hope to…Publish a book on dogs with my husband. We just got an offer for a contract to write a book on animals for Random House based on an article he wrote for the Bee. We’re reviewing the contract and have started the book but we’ve got a lot of work to do!
The last book I read was…Best Friends, about the animal sanctuary. I’ve been reading a lot of animal books as research, but generally I read mysteries, nontechnical things to balance out the work I do.
People can see my work at…My home! I express a lot of my creativity through renovations and projects inside my home and in my garden.
I also enjoy…Gardening, working on my home, traveling and animals.
Want to get started in… Fine art? Good luck! I don’t have any sage advice, beyond that if you’re really serious about it you should go to school, get your degree and then do internships, put yourself out there with galleries and just know that you’ll probably have to have another job to support yourself.
