Farm to Fork in Stanislaus County at the Local Food Show

By Michele Laverty

Stanislaus Grown and the University of California Cooperative Extension hosted the first annual Local Food Show at the Stanislaus County Ag Center’s Harvest Hall in March. This was a precursor to the Farm to Table dinners and restaurant partner meetings they will be having at Greens on Tenth. The goal of the Local Food Festival and Farm to Table dinners is to connect local restaurants and growers and encourage promotion of eating local in restaurant signage. If you are eating local, you should know!

The event included a healthy school lunch featuring locally grown foods prepared by the Turlock Unified School District. The District highlights “in season” fruits and vegetables and ensures that menus include nutrition information but are kid friendly! They make school lunches that we all would love to eat and are teaching the students that healthy and local are good to go!
