Commonwealth: A Glorious Gastropub

By Noel Daniel

It’s hard to propose a dinner downtown without someone mentioning Commonwealth—and there’s a good reason for that. Commonwealth is Modesto’s home of craft beer, wine, and great food.

Combining a strong, west coast-centric beer menu and a wine list from around the globe, Commonwealth creates the perfect gastropub to meet your pals for a drink and some grub.

Explore a menu of pub delicacies focused on craft sandwiches, salads, homemade potato chip nachos, and snack plates to pair with your favorite wine or beer. And they take pride in using many local and seasonal ingredients. Although many customer favorites stay on the menu, they like to keep things fresh with weekly specials and a seasonally-rotating menu.

And it’s not just their menu that’s chock-full of variation. They have 24 rotating taps that feature a well-balanced mix of the finest craft beer in the country. While there is a strong focus on West Coast ale, if its good and available, they will be looking to feature it at some point. Not to mention that new beers will be on tap daily.

They also support the philosophy that beer should be enjoyed in a great glass. All of their regular pours are served in a 20 ounce pub glass. Strong beers are poured in a 13 ounce Belgian tulip glass. Of course, if you can’t choose just one, they also offer four beer samplers of your choosing. And if you’re not craving a brew, wine is another of their specialties. Their wine list features a global mix of of high quality labels at prices that won’t break the bank.
