A Noble Pursuit: Local Equine Brand Goes National
By Mallory Leone
It's rare to see sleek, modern riding gloves that stand the test of hours chafing on the reins. Gear that looks good isn’t built to withstand the rigors of hard work, and hardworking gear typically looks clunky and thick. That is, until now. Introducing Noble Equine, a company created to do all this and more.
Noble Equine's riding gloves are just one product in a line of high-performance equine gear, from knives and hoof picks, to a signature bag collection and even moisture wicking socks.
Kelsie Costa, President and co-founder of Noble Equine, explained that the business fills an important niche. "My family was running another business in Modesto that carried clothing for public safety and military personnel. We were used to listening to what people needed out of a piece of clothing and designing products that met that need."
In the equine market, the family saw a need for stylish, well-made performance gear. The trick, Kelsie added, was simply listening. "We hosted countless product development meetings with a huge range of consumers of every demographic. We asked them exactly what they wanted, from look and feel to pricing." Unlike chain stores, customers are more likely to tell independent retailers exactly what they need. "We talk to our customers every day, which means we can make a huge difference in the industry really quickly."
Kelsie and her Modesto-based crew are committed to making a difference. Besides employing dozens of local and national sales staff, Noble Equine gives five percent of all profits to youth programs that foster equine interests and provide valuable learning experiences. Throughout the year, Kelsie and her family can also be found serving up barbeque or selling raffle tickets at area events to support local youth-oriented organizations. "Everyone at the company loves the area,” she said. “We wouldn't want to be anywhere else."
