5.11 Tactical Donates Backpacks to Support Local Youth

By Jacqui D. Sinarle

Thanks to 5.11 Tactical, a number of local youth will be better prepared for school this year.

In September, 5.11 donated 60 backpacks to the Stanislaus Family Justice Center, which will distribute them throughout the year to children in need who have been exposed to family violence.

“Family violence creates a very difficult environment for children to thrive, and many children who have been bystanders or victims of family violence don’t have the funds to purchase backpacks or the school supplies they need,” reflected Carol Shipley, executive director of Stanislaus Family Justice Center. “We hope these backpacks will increase kids’ self-esteem by helping them fit in with their classmates, assist them in carrying essential school supplies, and support them to reach their goals.”

According to Bill Berry, Senior Director of Global Sales Operations for 5.11, the company manufactures 18 different backpacks, from day packs to multiple day packs, and donated an assortment of these to help meet the children’s needs.

“The kids who are assisted by the Stanislaus Family Justice Center are always on the go,” Berry observed. “We hope that by providing them with functional backpacks, they’ll have one less thing to worry about as they start the new school year.”

The backpack donation is just one of the many ways that 5.11 gives back to the community.

The business supports many Central Valley programs, including the Salvation Army, Stanislaus Partners in Education, local law enforcement, area fundraisers, and school groups. In addition, 5.11 recently donated t-shirts to members of the Beyer High School robotics team for their trip to the Robotics Nationals in the Midwest, and donated gear bags and clothing to Davis High School’s public safety program.

5.11 Tactical was established in 2003 as a public safety apparel and gear company with the goal of outfitting public safety personnel from head to toe and making innovative, purpose-built gear for the most demanding missions. Today, 5.11 also produces consumer apparel and gear for any work or outdoor recreational activity. “5.11 is a proud and committed member of the Stanislaus community and we’re grateful that we can support our neighbors,” Berry added.
